Make sure you request a table closest to the view for the best starry night vibes and don’t skip perusing their superbly curated Coravin wine list—they didn’t just receive three glasses in Australia’s Wine List Of The Year Awards for nothing. Words cannot express how stunning the view is from this woodfire and sustainability-focused spot on Sky Deck. Even if you have stopped in for a stickybeak, it’s likely you got lost somewhere between George Street and Sky Deck without actually discovering just how many different dining options there are around the precinct. Experience innovative dining sophistication at Black Hide Steak & Seafood by Gambaro, located at Brisbane’s multi-billion dollar entertainment precinct The Star Brisbane, Queen’s Wharf. Below, the 12,000sqm open-air Leisure Deck, perched 37 metres above street level, delivers resort-style amenities, event space and expansive lawns overlooking the city skyline. The Star Brisbane is home to the five-star The Star Grand Brisbane, a vibrant collection of restaurants and bars, and a state-of-the-art Event Centre – including Brisbane’s largest hotel ballroom. Positioned at the heart of the multi-billion-dollar Queen’s Wharf Brisbane precinct, The Star Brisbane commenced its staged opening IN August 2024 – redefining Brisbane’s riverfront as a world-class tourism, entertainment and lifestyle destination. Pair your bubbly with oysters at the Champagne bar or sip alfresco on the outdoor terrasse. With over 150 wines, including many European varieties, and signature cocktails like La Vie en Rose and Le Pompette, there’s always a reason to raise a glass.
If we had to choose, we’d say grab a table out on the patio, where you can enjoy the sunset views with a glass of bubbles in hand before tucking into signature eats like steak tartare and the impressive boeuf filet en croûte. Worth noting—they offer up a $28 gyros lunch special if you need a break from your usual leftovers. Lamb ribs, wagyu lamb pastitsio, slow- cooked lamb shoulder, lamb tomahawk—we’ll take it all. The menu has entire sections dedicated to ceviche, skewers, empanadas and more, as well as larger plates like their 24-hour braised short rib, pork tomahawk and achiote spatchcock. Next level flavour that’s what. Serving up Latin American and Asian fusion with a side of river views, Azteca’s surrounds match the brief perfectly, featuring hanging greenery, big terracotta brick-lined circular booths, a stunning geometric bar and an outdoor patio to catch the breeze. Be sure to stay for an extra cocktail at the stunning bar on your way out.
What that means is that you’ll be dining on dishes like lobster petite banh mi, crispy escargot and pork spring rolls and Vietnamese-coffee inspired tiramisu—see why we love it? Start your meal with a glass of champagne and a caviar bump—we do love a bite-sized baller moment. Marbled Angus and Wagyu steaks are still a staple on the menu of course, but they’re now joined with a hefty line up of seafood options, including cold seafood platters, lobster mornay and grilled Mooloolaba king prawns. Serious carb-loading awaits at Cucina Regina, a relaxed Italian restaurant perched on The Terrace with river views.
Raise your glass to la joie de vivre and let the champagne pour! Whether you’re sharing or savouring solo, pop the cork, embrace the flavours and and vive la fête. Under shimmering lights, champagne flows like liquid joy, and caviar bumps are the pièce de résistance.
The Trans and gender-diverse communities are starting to feel vulnerable, so let’s continue to work on making The Star a safe and inclusive place for everyone, esp., for trans and gender-diverse team members. Alarming laws and legislation have been passed in other countries that can significantly impact people’s lives. Without the dedication of the Proud team, we would never have been able to achieve what we had. In all seriousness, though, I was really honoured to be nominated and a finalist. It was an absolute joy to see the collaboration from all the stakeholders and how their team welcomed them with open arms. Secondly, I was invited to help reintroduce a team member who was affirming their gender to their department. Witnessing allies and LGBTQI+ members who embraced their identity with openness and pride inspired me to be true to myself.
